About

Our Story

The Rains Foundation Golf Tournament, initiated in 2005 by Steve Rains in honor of his father Lyndon Rains, serves as a vital fundraiser to assist local students in attending Tennessee Tech University by providing scholarship funds. The foundation, currently managed by Steve’s wife Emily Rains, focuses on students from the Upper Cumberland region, specifically from Cumberland, Fentress, Morgan, Pickett, and Putnam counties. To date, it has awarded over $325,000 in scholarships to 177 students.

Held annually at the Golden Eagle Golf Club, the tournament is recognized as the community’s first golf fundraiser of the year and features two flights with 22 teams each. Departing from a traditional golf event format, it includes a full day of food, golf, games, and socializing, aptly described as a FUNdraiser with golf at its core.

Historically, The Rains Foundation has focused on golf as the primary means of raising funds for our initiatives. This year, we are excited to implement a Singer Song Writers night to help raise additional funds and grow the foundation, enabling us to have a stronger impact on our community.

The foundation’s partnership with Tennessee Tech enhances the efficiency of scholarship allocations. Each year, the event aims to expand and provide greater outcomes, promising an enjoyable and impactful experience for all participants. All proceeds from the event are directed towards the Rains Foundation’s scholarship efforts.
